​JCVC seeks motivated, competitive volleyball players who want to advance their skill and who can capably accommodate a busy schedule. Only those athletes who demonstrate this commitment will be assigned to a Club team. All Saskatchewan athletes are welcome to tryout for JCVC teams. Each age division has a separate tryout time, as indicated in our Tryout Schedule. Please ensure you register for the appropriate time for your age group.

In order to fully evaluate all divisions, tryouts will be done in a 2-round format. After each tryout, selections will be made to reduce the number of athletes for the subsequent date. Those athletes invited to the next round of tryouts will be notified through the JCVC website.

All Club Season athletes will have a digital photo taken at registration, prior to starting the tryout. These photos will be used by the coaches to properly identify athletes during the selection process, and will NOT be posted on the website. All digital image files will be deleted once the final teams are selected.

TRYOUT ATTIRE

T-shirt, socks, kneepads, volleyball or court shoes, shorts or spandex, hair tied back. Players are not to wear bandanas, wristbands, yoga tops, spaghetti strap or ripped shirts, jewelry or black soled shoes.

ATHLETE SELECTION CRITERIA

Each team will consist of 10 – 12 athletes selected during tryouts. All athletes will be re-evaluated each season to ensure top athletes are selected to the program. Previous experience with JCVC will serve as beneficial information to the evaluation team.

All athletes will be assessed (score of 1-5) and selected based on the following criteria:
Volleyball Skills
  • serving, passing, serve receive, setting, hitting, blocking, digging, ball pursuit

Athletic & Physical Abilities
  • mobility, speed, range of motion, reaction time, motor skills, hand/eye coordination, height, strength, vertical, reach, effort, learning retention, sport instincts

Game Knowledge
  • play recognition, tactical skills, rules, strategy

​Communication & Work Ethic
  • discipline, intensity, consistency, effort, adaptability, leadership, coachability, positive attitude, competitiveness
